Parts of Speech Worksheet *Freebie*

Most children with specific language impairment (SLI) have difficulties learning and using vocabulary. If you have ever picked up one of your child’s reading books from school then you will see that they are constantly introducing new language… Which is where my latest resource on parts of speech comes in.

Todays sheet in my ‘Be Curriculum Focused’ series are on the different parts of speech. The child is instructed to go on a ‘speech hunt’ using their reading books and identify 5 adjectives, 5 nouns and 5 verbs. They are then required to write (or speak and you scribe) four sentences using one of each of these parts of speech to demonstrate that they have an understanding of the words.

  1. Use the child’s curriculum (reading) books – that way you can tackle definitions if the child is unsure of the meaning and it will give them a rounded view of vocabulary.
  2. Most school curriculums contain a list of core vocabulary for each book – why not classify these words into adjectives, nouns and verbs?

This worksheet links to the following Common Core Standards:

  • Use frequently occurring adjectives.
  • Use frequently occurring nouns and verbs.

  • Capitalize dates and names of people
